| | | Venue | | New Delhi, India | | | | | | Structure | The objective of the Green Conclave is to provide a forum for the individuals and organisations working in the region, to share information and build relationships in an informal working environment. The two-day conference is structured into opening ceremony, plenary session and keynote sessions. Each session would have three panellists. Each panellist would speak for approximately 20 minutes. In addition to informative presentations, the conclave programme will allow ample time for discussion so that all participants can contribute and share their experiences. | | | | Key areas of discussion | | The conclave will include sessions on policy, water management, energy, sustainability, and the role of Technology. The focus will be on how the decision makers and the industry can come together for the cause of protecting our environment utilizing the scientific and technological know how. | | | | Policy Issues | | The session will revisit the existing policies for adapting to climate changes and envision what we can do for future and looks into the India’s stand on the issues, with special emphasis on industry and agriculture pertaining to climate change, global warming and GHG emissions and the post-Bali scenario | | | | Sustainable Development | The session is based on the importance of sustainability in agriculture and industrial sector in light of the changing climate scenario. It will also discuss the role that various technologies and initiatives like re-foresting can play in the sustainable development.
The session would also examine the sustainability measures that are to be taken in the industries, energy and fuel sector, and in the construction of Green / sustainable buildings. Further, issues such as bridging the gap between concept and realities; and transparency, reporting and corporate responsibility to ensure sustainable development would also be looked into.
| | | | Water Issues and Technology | Given the growing incidents of water crises due to the environmental changes, the key issues pertaining to the water, such as water resource development and policies for adapting effectively to the climatic changes, needs to be sorted out.
Technology for reclaiming sea water, water purification for reuse and recycle and the economics of wastewater disposal and management that helps counter the crises, form an important part of the discussions in this session.
| | | | Energy Scenario and Technological Developments | | Alternate Energy is one of the key issues that governments as well as industry are looking up to, in an attempt to facilitate a major change. The session will concentrate on issues such as how alternative energy can benefit industries and policies and regulations; nuclear energy: the hard facts; alternate energy innovations, integration of alternate energy in the main stream; infrastructure and cost implications.. | | | | Waste management | | Waste Management forms an inseparable part of greening efforts and needs to find its due. The focus of the session will remain on how we are faring. Discussions on whether we are actually becoming a dumping ground for the developed nations; advanced waste treatment technology, Energy from waste and the 3Rs will form a major part of this session. | | | | GIS and IT in green development | IT and GIS have taken the lead in helping the cause of green development, studying environmental health, identifying green projects, location and also assist in reducing carbon footprints. These technologies have a role to play via data centre consolidations, GIS and inventory databases, not just for environmental concerns but for business concerns as well.

| | Climate change is in itself a disaster and, partially if not fully, manmade. It has caused problems like urban flooding and agricultural lapses. It is important to identify the risks and take steps for prevention. The session will follow the same line of discussion. | | |
